Marseille prioritise Hamza Igamane deal amid ‘Unique’ Rangers development

Hamza Igamane may have established himself at Rangers this season but he could be set for a summer exit already.

After signing for the Gers last summer, Igamane has made 26 Scottish Premiership appearances this term, scoring 10 times and contributing an assist.

However, Rangers may already have a battle on their hands to retain his services as Ligue 1 side Marseille are said to be desperate on striking a deal in the summer transfer window.

The conclusion of the campaign could be the beginning of plenty of change at Ibrox ahead of next term.

 

The 49ers Enterprises are looking to strike a deal to complete a takeover of Rangers, which should put the club in a stronger financial position and preparing for a different kind of summer transfer window.

There is also the matter of a managerial appointment, with Barry Ferguson only set to be overseeing things until the end of this season at the very least.

 

Nevertheless, impressive results against Fenerbahce and Celtic before the international break have put Ferguson’s name into the conversation over a permanent Ibrox role.

 

While Igamane isn’t the first player you’d think to see the back of to start a rebuild, the Light Blues could be facing competition to keep the forward.

According to French news outlet But [19 March], the 22-year-old is a priority target for Marseille in the summer window after his “unique” rise up through football.

 

The report states that despite his decreasing minutes since Ferguson’s departure, the French side are still interested but could have to pay up to £8.3million if they want to secure a deal.

Igamane was only named as a substitute against Celtic last week, but when brought on in the dying minutes he scored a famous Old Firm winner at Celtic Park.

 

The 22-year-old has shown he is full of promise, and while there is plenty of work to still be done, he is at an age in which he can continue to grow.

 

The forward is under contract at Ibrox until 2029, meaning Rangers are under no pressure to make a move this summer. If the 49ers takeover goes through at Ibrox, the financial implications of the deal will also be different.

 

What’s more, Premier League sides including the likes of Everton, Newcastle United and Tottenham are said to be interested in Igamane too, and they would likely outweigh Marseille in a bidding war.
