Leeds United promotion rivals Burnley handed boost after EFL decisions confirmed
The latest Leeds United news as we are now getting to the business end of the season in the race for automatic promotion from the Championship. Leeds United’s promotion rivals Burnley have been handed a potentially pivotal boost in the race for automatic promotion with the EFL releasing the latest set of TV picks.
The Whites currently lead the way in the Championship, but did see their lead at the top of the table cut at the weekend following the 2-2 draw with Queens Park Rangers. A win for Sheffield United saw them draw level on points with Leeds, with Daniel Farke’s men still top on goal difference. Third placed Burnley also picked up three points which saw them close the gap to just two points behind Leeds in the table.
It is shaping up to be both a nervy and exciting end to the season as we reach the business end of the campaign.
A crucial part of the promotion race is likely to come over the Easter weekend. Fixtures are played on Good Friday and Easter Monday. Both of Leeds’ games over the Easter weekend will be shown on Sky Sports with the EFL confirming the latest round of broadcast selections on Thursday.
The trip to Oxford United on Friday, April 18 will now kick off at 8pm and will be shown live on Sky Sports Football.
Leeds are then back in action three days later when they take on Stoke City at Elland Road on Easter Monday (3pm kick-off). The game will again be shown live on Sky Sports Football.
While there is a quick turnaround for Leeds between the 8pm kick-off on the Friday and the 3pm on the Monday, Burnley have been given a bit longer between their two fixtures.
Their match on Good Friday when they travel to Watford will kick off at 3pm (and will be shown on Sky Sports+). They are then back in action at 5.30pm on Easter Monday when they take on Sheffield United away in a game that will be shown live on Sky Sports Football and ITV1.
The change in kick-off times will therefore give the Clarets an extra seven-and-a-half hours of rest in between their games, compared to the time Leeds have.
