Leeds United injury development emerges after Wilfried Gnonto Italy U21 update

Leeds United ace Wilfried Gnonto was forced off for Italy under-21s in an international friendly against the Netherlands.

 

The Whites need as many fully fit players as possible as Daniel Farke looks to earn promotion to his side at the second attempt.

 

 

 

With that being said, the international break has arguably come at the worst time, despite a draw against QPR last time out.

 

As a result, the German head coach is likely to be fuming after the Italy youth international was forced off on Friday night.

Gnonto forced off for Italy U21s

The Elland Road fan favourite has had an up-and-down season in the second tier where he has often been utilised as a substitute in recent weeks.

The winger started against the Oranje on 21 March but failed to make it to half time after being forced off with 44 minutes gone.

 

Italian journalist Andrea Russo reported via X that the Leeds man injured his left ankle in a challenge with Dutch defender Tyrese Asante.

 

The 21-year-old forward slipped while trying to control the ball and collided with the full-back but tried to carry on but was unable to do so.

 

The crowd at the Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo chanted the wide man’s name as he made his way straight down the tunnel and to the dressing room.

Leeds United could welcome Gnonto back during international break

After being forced off in the first game of national team duty, there are likely to be conversations being held from Thorp Arch.

 

Farke and Co. will be keen for the Italian not to play another game and would rather welcome him back to Elland Road to rest.

 

With a home clash against Swansea City coming up on 29 March, the Whites need as strong a squad as they can possibly utilise.

 

This could point towards Gnonto coming back early from his stint with Italy to undergo rest and recovery with his club side.
