Speculation over a potential January return to England for Ivan Toney, including interest from Leeds United, has been firmly denied by Al-Ahli’s director, Rui Pedro Braz.
Despite recent reports naming the former Brentford striker as a target for Leeds — amid their well-documented need for proven goalscoring reinforcements — Braz insisted that “the rumours around his possible exit in January are not based in reality.”
Toney, 29, joined Al-Ahli from Brentford in a £40 million move. Since then, he has continued to shine in the Saudi Pro League, but Braz made clear that the club has no plans to let him go anytime soon: “We’re counting on him; it makes zero sense to address this subject in November.”
As for Leeds, sources suggest he is not on their radar for the January window. While the Whites desperately need attacking options, insiders claim the club is focusing elsewhere, rather than making a move for Toney.
There are several reasons why a deal would be difficult:
- Wage Barrier: Toney reportedly earns around £400,000-per-week at Al-Ahli — a figure Leeds would struggle to match.
- Club Commitment: Al-Ahli view him as a key player and are not interested in negotiating a departure.
- Tactical Fit: According to Leeds’ own sources, the club’s tactical setup may not even require a striker of Toney’s profile.
For Leeds fans hoping for a marquee January signing, this is a disappointment. While Toney remains a proven Premier League striker, his current club appear resolute in keeping him — and Leeds don’t seem positioned to make a move.
