Alan Hutton names the one Rangers manager candidate that stands above the rest

So many names have been put forward as the potential next permanent Rangers manager.

The nature of the temporary appointment of Barry Ferguson means that will continue to be the case.

The Ibrox legend and former captain is in situ until the end of the season and it seems highly unlikely he will remain beyond that, barring an exceptional set of circumstances.

So Gers will be looking for their next boss in the meantime and Steven Gerrard has reportedly already held talks and has been strongly linked in the media.

Sean Dyche is another who club chiefs have spoken too while Ally McCoist named his preferred three candidates – Gerrard, Kevin Muscat and Derek McInnes.

Alan Hutton has been quizzed on all the names doing the rounds and admits one stands above the rest.

Hutton was then asked ‘could it work?’, replying: “I hope so. I don’t see why not. I think it could work.”
