Rodgers didn’t see the flash point – and refused to blame the large lead on the sub par showing.
He said: “It can’t do. There’s no excuse. If it’s a one-point gap or 16 or whatever it is, there’s no excuse. There’s no excuse.
“We didn’t defend well enough. We weren’t sharp enough mentally in the game, with and without the ball. And if you don’t, then a good team can punish you.

“We had a much better second half. We got the goal and it felt like a matter of time. But you shouldn’t then lose the game from that position.”
Celtic lost 3-0 at Ibrox at Christmas but triumphed against Gers in the Premier Sports Final on penalties after a 3-3 thriller in December.
But Rodgers admitted conceding NINE goals in the last three derby clashes has set off alarm bells.

He said: “Yeah, that’s something to think about for sure. I mentioned that afterwards. You need to be better. You need to be defensively much better, much more secure.
“But I think also part of that comes from the ball, giving the ball away and not dominating it like we do.
“You hand a little bit of an onus to the opposition. But ultimately, the three goals were disappointing goals.”

Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate had dragged Celtic level and Rodgers admitted he was confident Celtic would kick on and win the clash.
But he said: “Probably a draw was a fair result. But credit to the Rangers, they won the game. The first half was not so good. Second half, we got the early goal, a really good goal.
“From there it looked like we’re the team that was in the ascendancy and could go on to win the game. We got to two each and there was a good feeling, good energy in the stadium.

“I just hoped for us to go on and take the next steps to get the goals. Jack Butland made some great saves but if you can’t win it, then don’t lose it.
“Unfortunately, we made a mistake towards the end of the game and the striker finished it really well.”

Rodgers admitted injured skipper Callum McGregor was a huge miss, along with Auston Trusty.
He said: “We missed Callum. I don’t think there’s any doubt in that. I mentioned before about the tactical balance he gives the team.
“He’s the guy that opens up everything for us. His movement, his quality, his touch gets us through the pitch nice and quickly.

“So you could see it wasn’t anywhere near as fluid. That’s the reality. But, others have to step up because if he’s not playing, then we need to be better.”
Outcast Maik Nawrocki received a shock recall but the defender got pass marks on his first start of the season.
Rodgers said: “I thought he’d done really well. I said that to him afterwards in the changing room.

“There weren’t too many highlights for us. But certainly for him, for a guy that’s not played virtually for a year, it shows you how well he’s trained and how professional he’s been.
“So I thought he’d done really, really well to last the game.”
There was chaos behind the Rangers bench after the winner with the water carry on but Rodgers admitted: “I didn’t see it. I think I went to the screen just to have a look at the goal.”
