I broke the Rangers takeover story – these guys are serious professionals and here’s when deal could be finalised
Keith Jackson spoke on Hotline Live about the prospective new Rangers owners and what he’s hearing about when the deal could be rubber-stamped
The Rangers takeover is likely to be done in ‘weeks rather than months’ according to our man Keith Jackson – who offered fans an insight into what the new owners will be bringing to the table on tonight’s Hotline Live.
We broke the story last month that an investment group fronted up by businessman Andrew Cavenagh and the San Francisco 49ers were in advanced talks to buy a major stake in the Ibrox club and those talks have been pressing ahead behind the scenes ever since. As far as bombshell developments go, it’s plateaued slightly – but Record Sport can confirm talks are still well on track with all parties keen to get the deal over the line.

Speaking on tonight’s live show, the man who brought you the story first believes it’s now a matter of weeks rather than months away from being finalised. Speaking with Daniel Caw and Michael Gannon on the show, he said: “How long is a piece of string in terms of how long it can take to go through everything? As we keep saying, it’s a really complex deal with a number of different strands. There’s all manner of complexities.
“It’s with the lawyers, how long it’s going to take to finesse everything and get it rubber-stamped, I’m not sure. But I’m reliably informed it’s more likely to be weeks than months.”

It was reported today that a deal has been agreed in principle, but if it’s all gone a little quiet otherwise for now, that’s down to the professionalism of the men leading the charge. Keith went on: “Everything these guys will do, you can be fairly certain it will be done absolutely professionally.
“Obviously we broke the story, and I find it astonishing that these talks were going on back in October. The 49ers were managing to have these talks back then – that’s how professional this thing is.
“By the time I got around to breaking that story, the talks were already at an advanced level. That gives you an indication of how these guys are likely to go about their business. They are serious professionals.”
