Rangers’ hunt for their next permanent manager is heating up ahead of the summer window.

 

This summer is going to be a huge one for Rangers if they are to avoid replicating their domestic shortcomings from the previous campaign.

Ever since Barry Ferguson arrived, it seemed fairly evident that it was just going to be a short-term plan to keep things running in Glasgow, but the idea was that the Gers would be able to move quickly to appoint the next permanent boss.

Davide Ancelotti has been the frontrunner for the job, and according to a report from the Daily Record (27 May), Andrew Cavenagh has planned to initiate more discussions with him this week.

Russell Martin is another whom Cavenagh will meet with to discuss the role, having been sacked from Southampton the season after guiding them to promotion.

Rangers will be afforded no margin for error when it comes to the decisions that need to be made within the next few months, and it is imperative that they get them right.

 

Domestically, the Light Blues have looked light-years away from being able to compete with Celtic for silverware, and fell just short in the Europa League after an impressive run.

 

Things need to change at Ibrox, and quickly, if they are to have any chance of returning to the dominant force in Scottish football that they once were.
