Celtic have been punished by the SPFL after their supporters used pyrotechnics during the semi-finals and final of the Premier Sports Cup at Hampden earlier this season.

The Parkhead side emphatically defeated Aberdeen by six goals to nil in the last four before returning to the national stadium a month later to put city rivals Rangers to the sword in a penalty shootout victory to secure the league cup.

Both matches were delayed – the semi-final more significantly so – because of the use of pyrotechnics from the stands.

The SPFL have now hit out at Celtic, as well as Rangers and Motherwell, with disciplinary action.

Celtic were found to have breached SPFL Rule H34 in respect of both the semi-final and final of the Premier Sports Cup, in ‘failing to ensure, as far as is reasonably practicable, that their supporters did not engage in “unacceptable conduct” at those matches’.
