Chris Sutton, a former Celtic striker and current football pundit, has recently commented on Cyriel Dessers’ role at Rangers under manager Philippe Clement.

Despite earlier criticisms of Dessers’ performances, Sutton now acknowledges the striker’s improvement and suggests that Clement is unlikely to hastily offload him.In December 2023, Sutton was critical of Dessers following Rangers’ 2-1 loss to Celtic, stating that Dessers “killed Rangers” by missing key opportunities and lacking effective link-up play.

However, by January 2024, Sutton’s perspective had shifted. He noted that Dessers’ recent performances, including crucial goals, indicate a resurgence under Clement’s management. Sutton remarked, “Cyriel Dessers is case in point. The Nigerian was being hounded as an out-and-out dud in the first weeks of the season. Now he’s scoring goals regularly.”

This change in form suggests that Clement’s approach is yielding positive results, and he may prefer to continue developing Dessers’ potential rather than seeking an immediate replacement.
