Clement ready for ‘awkward Rangers return’ as Kieran Dowell ‘aims sly dig’
Philippe Clement has seemingly taken stray hits from a Rangers loanee who was not good enough to make it at Ibrox.
Kieran Dowell‘s career in Scotland has largely failed since arriving on a free transfer from Norwich City in June 2023, making just 32 appearances in that time.
Having made 12 appearances in the first half of the 2024/25 Scottish Premiership campaign, only two have come from the starting XI, with Nico Raskin and Mohamed Diomande much preferred.
The 27-year-old is on loan at Birmingham City until the end of the season, upon which time he will return to Glasgow, but he seems to have forgotten that already.

Speaking to the Sky Blues’ media team, Dowell said: “To be honest, it’s a chance to start enjoying my footy again. I’ve come to a club that’s dominating the ball and playing positive football and that’s what it’s going like so far.

“The reality of my situation was that I have not played as much as I wanted to in the last 18 months, so I am grateful to the club for giving me that platform to play again.”
He is clearly a very talented midfielder, already scoring his first goal for Chris Davies’ side as they take League One by storm, but Clement just was not convinced by his capabilities.
There will have been a real reason as to why the midfielder was not being given the expected game time at Ibrox, and now he has set Clement up for a rather awkward encounter at the end of his loan spell.

Rangers must get rid of dead wood during the summer transfer window
Dowell looks to be another player that the Gers need to get rid of permanently once the summer transfer window, alongside Rabbi Matondo and Tom Lawrence.

Injuries have played a huge role in the aforementioned trio’s struggles in Scotland, only managing to put together a few decent performances altogether, all while taking up a large chunk of the wage bill.
There is no telling if Clement will be in charge once the summer window rolls around, but if he is given another chance to steady the ship, he will need to move a lot of players to succeed as the boss.
That certainly includes Dowell, who has massively disappointed despite joining on a free transfer, spending most of his time on the sidelines or sitting on the bench.
Clement currently has far too many of those players weighing him down at Ibrox. The sooner they disappear, the better for all involved at the club.
