As well as transfer decisions, Leeds United have a number of contract calls to make in the coming months and beyond.
One has already been made, with Josuha Guilavogui set to exit after arriving as a free agent in October. The club remain in talks with Junior Firpo and Sam Byram over fresh deals while James Debayo has been offered new terms.

But once the futures of all three have been decided, attention may turn to a number of other players, particularly those who are soon to enter the final year of their contract. Meanwhile, Leeds might be looking at who they can offload for a good sum given the number of years left to run on their deals.

The club will need to rake in extra money to manoeuvre within financial regulations somehow. Here is a breakdown of when each player is out of contract.

Karl Darlow, Patrick Bamford, Alex Cairns, Daniel James, Illan Meslier, Sam Greenwood, Darko Gyabi.
The stand-out name here is Daniel James, who is one of the first names on Daniel Farke’s team sheet. Getting him tied down to a new deal would be a good piece of transfer business in itself. A new deal also ensures Leeds lock in value for forthcoming years, protecting the club financially going forward.

With Karl Darlow more likely to be happy with a place on the bench, Illan Meslier’s days could be numbered. At age 25, he would get a tidier sum than 34-year-old Darlow, who has earned his place in next season’s squad.
While Alex Cairns helps the homegrown quota and would settle for third-pick goalkeeper as he runs down his deal, there is less clarity on what to do with Patrick Bamford. This is the last summer in which Leeds can get a fee for him – with a renewal unlikely – but would the sum ultimately gained be worth the hassle of finding a replacement?
He has top tier experience after all and would perhaps settle for third fiddle as striker. Meanwhile, Sam Greenwood looks destined for an exit, though the same cannot yet be said of Darko Gyabi.

Max Wober, Joel Piroe, Ilia Gruev, Ethan Ampadu, Brenden Aaronson, Pascal Struijk, Joe Gelhardt.
Some may view the contract lengths of Max Wober and Brenden Aaronson as good arguments to sell them off now and get in as much money as they can, while they can. But positional depth means this isn’t that simple.

Aaronson is currently the only natural number 10 at the club and Wober is the primary natural back-up centre-back. Reinforcement would have to be brought in before they are sold off.
Joe Gelhardt could be heading out of Elland Road, perhaps to Hull City – but for the rest, there is no need to jump the gun. There is a whole year’s worth of football to play before considering next steps – that is whether to renew, sell or keep as is. A year is a very long time in football and things can change starkly in that time.

There is a decision to make over Jack Harrison, whom many fans do not wish to see kept on due to him jumping ship for the two years United were in the Championship. If Manor Solomon is not signed permanently, though, the picture becomes a touch murkier. But if the decision is to sell, three years on his deal may yield a healthy return.

Harrison aside, this is the group the United hierarchy need not pay attention to unless it becomes clear the player wishes to leave or that by selling them, the club would bring in some needed cash. There are two current examples of both scenarios here.
Mateo Joseph is still only 21 but should Real Betis come in with another bid of around £10m, it might tempt United to sell up. That sum could be the difference between acquiring a star striker signing and not – though Leeds may wish to hold out for more due to his contract length and age.
