As of February 2025, Coventry City Football Club continues to face challenges regarding its stadium situation. The club currently plays its home games at the Coventry Building Society (CBS) Arena, a 32,609-seat stadium they lease from Frasers Group under a five-year agreement established in 2023, securing their tenancy until at least 2028.
In 2020, Coventry City announced plans to build a new 23,000-seat “eco-park” stadium in partnership with the University of Warwick. This proposed stadium aimed to support sustainability goals and provide modern facilities. However, as of late 2024, there has been no significant progress on this project. Club owner Doug King has indicated that constructing a new stadium remains a long-term ambition but is not an immediate priority.
King has also expressed a desire for the club to own the CBS Arena outright, stating that uniting the football club with its stadium is essential for long-term success. Despite this intention, acquiring the stadium from its current owner, Mike Ashley’s Frasers Group, presents considerable challenges, and no deal has been reached to date.
Given these circumstances, Coventry City is expected to continue playing at the CBS Arena for the foreseeable future, with no immediate plans for stadium upgrades or new construc
tion.
