Cyriel Dessers reading same Rangers script as Jose Mourinho as Ibrox urged to drown out comeback chat
The big striker helped fillet Fenerbahce in Istanbul but warns Turks will be team on a mission in Glasgow for return leg

Cyriel Dessers has urged the Ibrox faithful to turn up the volume and help Rangers drown out Jose Mourinho’s comeback chat.
Barry Ferguson’s side shocked the normally deafening Sukru Saracoglu Stadium into stunned silence with Thursday’s 3-1 Europa League last 16 first-leg triumph. But Mourinho came roaring back in the post-match press conference, warning the Ibrox side not to get too carried away with the incredible result.
Dessers, however, is well aware of the threat posed by the Istanbul outfit. And he hopes the Light Blue legions can create an Ibrox atmosphere that inspires his side to finish the job this Thursday. Asked if his stuttering side owed fans a performance after their recent domestic struggles, Dessers said: “It is about time, yeah. But I know the place will be bouncing and that is what we will need because everybody saw Fenerbahce as a very good team, individually they have some top quality players.

“So we will need to be at our best and we need the fans, all of Ibrox, everybody. I know we are ready for it and hopefully we can finish the job there.”
Mourinho insisted after his side’s defeat that the tie is not over and Ferguson was quick to make the same point. And Dessers was reading off the same script when asked if it was dangerous to think that Gers had one foot in the quarter-finals.

“If you look at players like Edin Dzeko, Dusan Tadic, that’s world class for me. Their manager as well, he will have a plan next week. So we need to be prepared, have the same discipline, maybe even more energy, even more efficiency and then something’s possible. But we know the tie is not over.”

Dessers, like all his teammates, has had an up and down campaign. But Thursday was a night when he hit new heights. His sixth-minute opener gave Rangers a perfect start.
He delivered an inch-perfect pass for Vaclav Cerny’s goal just before half-time and was involved again as Nico Raskin sent the Czech ace scampering away late on to wrap up a famous win. Dessers said: “I think in the last 16 in the Europa League, to play a game like this is a very good feeling.
“Especially because I could help the team with the pre-assist for the last goal. Those are the things you want as a striker. But like I say, I want more. We’re only halfway and I hope we can finish it next week.”
