Everton in contact with overseas club over deal to sign one of the best ball winners on the planet

David Moyes has brought back the good feeling at Everton.

The Scotsman replaced Sean Dyche earlier this month and has already picked up two wins from three, which leaves Everton in a much healthier position.

The Toffees now seven points clear of the drop zone after securing a massive three points on the south coast against Brighton and Hove Albion yesterday.

Idrissa Gueye produced a Man of the Match display and Jake O’Brien also impressed, having been brought back into the fold under Moyes.

Moyes did admit he still wants signings in his post-match press conference and now it’s just emerged that the club are in contact with a Brazillian club over the potential signing of a defensive midfielder.

Everton in contact with Botofogo over Danilo Barbosa

According to the Sunday Mirror (page 71), Everton are in contact with Brazillian outfit Botofogo over a potential deal to sign Danilo Barbosa.

The Toffees have been offered the chance to sign Barbosa along with Championship promotion hopefuls Leeds and Sheffield United.

It’s understood a £2m bid would be enough to strike a deal with Botofogo due to Barbosa’s current contract situation.

The 28-year-old’s deal expires in December, so Botofogo are keen to cash in on him before the deadline slams shut in England on February 3rd.

Barbosa one of the best ball winners on the planet

Barbosa, who operates as a defensive midfielder, is statistically one of the best ball-winners on the planet.

According to FBref data, the former Brazil youth international ranks in the top three per cent for interceptions per 90 compared to his positional peers across South America and Europe.

Barbosa also sits in the top one per cent for clearances, so clearly he conducts his defensive duties extremely well.

For just £2m, it’s certainly a deal Everton should explore, even if that area of the pitch isn’t an immediate priority.
