Everton return to Premier League action this weekend when they take on Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux. The Blues have just enjoyed a free weekend after being knocked out of the FA Cup by Bournemouth last month.
David Moyes opted to take his side to the United Arab Emirates for a warm weather training camp. The trip came following an upturn in form, with the Blues currently enjoying a 15-point cushion between themselves and the bottom three.

Paul McParlan – Watching Everton has become far more enjoyable
After basking in the warmth of the Dubai sunshine during their recent training camp, Everton now travel to the less exotic and certainly much cooler climes of the Black Country to face Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.
At the start of the year, this fixture was viewed with some trepidation as a possible relegation six-pointer, which could greatly impact our season. However, times have changed for the better since then.

With 11 games remaining, Everton are 15 points clear of the relegation zone and 10 points ahead of Wolves, so this game is not quite as crucial as it appeared two months ago. Everton’s resurgence has also meant that fans have been able to relax and enjoy the football on television without having to worry about how a win for a team struggling at the bottom might affect Everton’s prospects for survival.
This is a luxury to be savoured; over the past three seasons, we have been reduced to hoping that even the likes of Liverpool could do us a favour by beating one of the teams locked in a survival struggle with us. Not anymore; we can crack open a few beers and view the football without worrying about the consequences of the result.
The warm weather break was perfectly timed for Everton. It gave the depleted squad a chance to recuperate and recharge after an intense run of fixtures and allowed injured players an opportunity to continue their rehabilitation. Is there a chance we might see Iliman Ndiaye make an appearance on Saturday?
This is an important fixture with Everton looking to extend their unbeaten run to eight games. Molineux under the lights will be a testing game against a Wolves team embroiled in a relegation battle. Nevertheless, with their star striker Matheus Cunha being suspended for the match, Everton must fancy their chances.
The Toffees are still to lose an away game since the return of the Moyesiah; let’s hope that can continue. And who on earth decided that 8pm on a Saturday night is an acceptable time for fans to travel over 70 miles to an away game with little prospect of making it home before midnight? This is yet another example of how the Premier League is all too eager to bow to the demands of the television companies over the wishes of fans.
Watching Everton has become a far more enjoyable experience in recent weeks, compared to how it was towards the end of Sean Dyche’s tenure. The team is playing with confidence, scoring goals and delivering entertaining and winning football.
Let’s keep the mood of positivity going with another win on the road and show that with new owners, a new manager, and a brand-new state-of-the-art stadium on the banks of the Royal Blue Mersey, Everton are finally heading in the right direction. Let’s enjoy the ride; it’s been a long time coming.
Alex McMonnies – Mood and expectations have shifted so much
A weekend without Everton usually serves as a welcome break for an emotionally exhausted fanbase.
However, it’s a credit to how much David Moyes has turned things around since returning to the club that many on social media expressed just how much they were missing the Toffees, who were enjoying a well-earned break in Abu Dhabi while the FA Cup fifth round fixtures took place.
Mood and expectations have shifted so much that the previous two results, draws against Manchester United and Brentford, which would have represented two valuable points in the relegation scrap just a few weeks ago, are now being seen as wasted opportunities for the Blues to boost themselves into the mid-table region.
Had Everton collected two wins from those games, which their domination and prolific chance creation probably warranted, they would be in 13th right now, as opposed to 16th, which arguably would be a fairer representation of the heightened performance levels since Moyes returned to the club.

Nevertheless, they have a chance to return to winning ways this Saturday when they travel down to the West Midlands to face Wolves. Their opponents are currently managed by Vitor Pereira, who in a not-so-alternate reality, could well have suffered the infamy of being the first Everton manager to take the club down in over 70 years, had he been appointed instead of Frank Lampard in January 2022.
Despite being a hugely unpopular prospective appointment with the Everton supporters, Pereira has settled into life at Molineux fairly well and currently has Wolves five points above the drop zone. However, their form is considerably more patchy than that of the Toffees, who have to be considered the clear favourites for this game.
This rare occurrence has historically blown up in Everton’s face, but hopefully with the new sense of confidence that Moyes has evidently drilled into this group of players, they will be able to relish that fact and produce a strong performance, giving the Evertonians, who will have made the journey for a tedious 8pm kick-off, something to cheer about. If Everton really want to be a top side again, this is the sort of game they should be winning comfortably.
