Ex-Liverpool star breaks silence on future as supporters demand Rangers transfer deal
Rangers are paying the price after years of transfer failures with Philippe Clement the incumbent manager picking up the pieces.
It’s not been a pretty six months after Rangers slashed £6m from the club’s wage bill in the summer with Nils Koppen wheeling and dealing his way through the window.
This January also saw Rangers continue to slash big salaries from their squad with the exits of Rabbi Matondo and Kieran Dowell freeing up £2m per annum.
But it’s Ben Davies – one of Rangers’ highest earners – who best sums up the years of reckless spending within Ibrox.
The centre-back arrived in a £4m deal from Liverpool in 2022 but has never been able to justify his whopping £27k per week wages at Rangers.
And now it remains unclear if Rangers will be able to ship the defender out permanently this summer.

Ben Davies ‘hasn’t thought’ about Birmingham future
Birmingham City fans have urged their club to sign Ben Davies with the League One side coasting to Championship promotion.
Davies, 29, is now an integral part of Chris Davies’ side after initially failing to break into the starting XI following a summer move to St Andrews.

But the Rangers defender hasn’t been paying much attention to what fans are saying online, nor has Davies thought too much about what happens at the end of the season.
“I don’t go on social media, or not looking for myself at least, so I haven’t noticed but if that’s the case it’s really flattering and brilliant to have their support,” Davies told Birmingham Live.
“I haven’t thought about it yet, I just wanted to come out and do a year’s loan and try and get going again because it was a bit stop-start at Rangers for me. I’m happy with the way it’s going but I haven’t thought past now.
“I came here looking to play as many games as possible and when I first came I realised the strength-in-depth that the squad had and the quality that they had all over the pitch, especially at the back so it took a bit of time and I’ve been patient. I’ve done a good run of games now so it feels good.”
Rangers look to shift out loan quartet
Ben Davies is one of a number of loan players Rangers will look to ship on permanently in the summer.
The defender moved to Ibrox with big expectations and that hefty price tag but has failed to have the desired impact in Glasgow.
Birmingham City also have Rangers midfielder Kieran Dowell on loan at St Andrews, with the ex-Everton and Norwich star already impressing after a January switch.
Rabbi Matondo is being backed to turn things around at Hannover 96 whilst Jose Cifuentes is setting his sights on a title triumph with Aris Thessaloniki.
