Fabrizio Romano drops six-figure transfer claim with striker Rangers let slip on the move
Every pound is important if Rangers want to close the gap on Celtic in terms of revenue and in terms of sustained success on the pitch.
The summer of 2024 saw five senior Rangers players leave for a paltry £800,000 with all but one of them valued at seven-figure fees.
The desperation to cut the wage bill was a factor with clearing space more important than securing the best fees as Nils Koppen saw his competence called into question.
Another area where more money needs to be made is in Rangers’ academy with talented players continuing to leave Auchenhowie without a penny coming in the opposite direction.
The latest transfer report from Fabrizio Romano only rubs salt into the wounds with former Rangers kid Robbie Ure said to be on the move.

Robbie Ure on the move as ex-Rangers kid attracts six-figure bid
The 6ft 3inch striker made three appearances in the first-team for the Ibrox outfit, scoring one goal in the process.
In the summer of 2023, Ure decided against extending his Rangers contract and instead took the brave move of heading abroad.
A trial with AZ Alkmaar followed for Ure didn’t materialise in an offer and it looked like the Scotland youth cap was going to have to settle for a club in the SPFL’s lower leagues.

That was until RSC Anderlecht signed Ure in a surprise move, but one that has clearly paid off.
After seven goals and two assists in 22 appearances for their B team who compete in Belgium’s second tier, the Scotland youth cap is on the move again with Swedish side IK Sirius agreeing terms on a £630,000 transfer.
For perspective, that’s not far from the development fee Rangers will pay Dundee’s for Lyall Cameron – it all adds up.

The £3m academy transfer that is Rangers example
This summer could see players like Adam Devine and Cole McKinnon leave Rangers for nothing despite both having made appearances in the first team and having played in Europe.
They have both spent time out on loan at other clubs only to be horded, just in case they were needed, and to meet UEFA’s homegrown quota regulations.
Not only is this not fair on the players, it is a waste of money too.
Rangers turned down £1m for Kai Kennedy when Steven Gerrard was manager only for him to bounce around Scotland and England’s lower leagues on loan and after leaving.
Whether it is the technical director or the sporting director that Patrick Stewart promised, Rangers need to start making the sort of money that sees the academy pay for itself.
Celtic sold Bosun Lawal for £3m after doing well on loan at Fleetwood Town despite barely gracing their senior squad with an appearance on the bench.
