Leeds United’s summer window seemed to shift upon the failed chase of Igor Paixao. His decision to go to Marseille did not entirely shock but it did deflate.
Leeds chiefs would have seen it as a real coup to land the Brazilian, having been impressed by his metrics and his close circle. Chairman Paraag Marathe, other senior figures and even countryman Lucas Perri, fresh through the door, tried to convince him to join.The stance from the United recruitment team to Paixao’s snub was one of disappointment but that it was not the end of the world – there were similar profile targets to him within the club’s remit, if not as good.In the end, Noah Okafor was the winger they turned to. His appearances have shown why Leeds admired him. Direct, unafraid, positive. His six completed dribbles against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday was five more than any other teammate.
Okafor was delighted to get on the scoresheet just before half-time at Molineux. The Swiss is not without blemish, having given the ball away for Wolves’ opener, but he has undoubtedly been a net positive so far.
