Newcastle United chiefs are confident that both options for their stadium project will have massive appeal to fans once the club is in a position to announce them.
With a feasibility report now concluded, although not shared with the public, experts feel that a potential new stadium or a thorough refurbishment of St James’ Park are still very much on the table. With some fans torn over whether to “stay or go”, the option of remaining on Barrack Road is believed to be an appealing one still.The “decision stage” was expected in early 2025 but as of yet there has been no official statements released. Chronicle Live were also first to report in January that the two options would see capacities of around 60,000 to stay at St James’ Park and 70,000 for a new stadium.
The possibility of a capacity of around 63,000 to stay at St James’ Park has also been mooted in recent days by those close to the club. Our information is that staying at St James’ Park would see the Gallowgate End restructured with chiefs impressed by projects like Borussia Dortmund’s Yellow Wall or the more recent South Stand at Tottenham Hotspur, which holds 17,000 fans.
