John Souttar ‘set for new Rangers role’ after contract development at Ibrox
John Souttar has been pivotal at Rangers and could potentially be set for a new role if he signs a new contract at Ibrox.
The centre-back has been one of the best players at the Gers this season despite his struggles with injuries.
But Souttar’s current deal at Ibrox will enter its final year next summer, and they might need to sell the defender soon to avoid losing him on the free transfer.
If the Scotland international does end up signing fresh terms, more responsibilities at the Bears may be on the horizon for him.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show (20 March), the journalist said: “For me, if [Souttar] stays, signs a new contract, he’s the next captain.

Ferguson to rely on Souttar at Ibrox

Tavernier has been a reliable captain for the Bears over the years, but the 33-year-old’s spell at Ibrox is clearly coming to an end.
Souttar or Raskin would definitely be perfect candidates to take the armband off the right-back, but first, the Gers need to decide who their next permanent manager will be.
