Josh Windass warns Rangers off ex-Bayern coach and reckons Englishman should be next manager

Josh Windass is certainly a polarising figure at Rangers after a mixed spell at Ibrox.

Rangers held off substantial competition to sign Windass from Accrington Stanley under Mark Warburton in 2016 and the attacker blew hot and cold over two years in Glasgow.

 

 

 

Since then Josh Windass has been a regular contributor in the media and the Sheffield Wednesday star has been giving his two cents on the Rangers manager hunt via Open Goal.

Josh Windass warns Rangers off ex-Bayern coach

Windass, 31, currently plays at Hillsborough under Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl.

 

Rohl has been linked to the Rangers job after impressing with the Owls, who finished 12th in the English Championship this season.

 

The 36-year-old has extensive experience managing in Germany, having worked with RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich and the German national team.

 

But whilst Windass has waxed lyrical about Rohl’s credentials, the attacker has warned Rangers that the German has a buyout clause in his Wednesday contract.

 

 

”I do (think he’ll go to the top) to be honest,” said Windass. “I don’t think he leaves this summer. I think he’s got a buyout clause.

“Yeah (I do think he could handle the Rangers job). He’s been at Bayern Munich and in terms of expectations and fan pressure, it’s the same.”

Rangers have a five man shortlist when it comes to who will be appointed the next Ibrox manager.

 

Jim White claimed that Steven Gerrard is the frontrunner, with reports in Spain suggesting Davide Ancelotti is in ‘advanced talks’ with Rangers.

 

Ibrox sources insist there is no preferred candidate at Rangers, with the managerial hunt to go into next week.

 

But when it comes to who should be the next manager, Windass’ preference isn’t Gerrard or Ancelotti.

”I think Russell (Martin) would’ve been a good appointment personally,” said Windass.

 

”I just think somebody who is clear and, it sounds obvious, but somebody who is good because I think they go too much on names to please the fans.”
