Arne Slot was shown one of a handful of red cards as Michael Oliver allowed the final Goodison Park Merseyside derby to descend into chaos.

 

Liverpool seemed destined for a huge win in the Premier League title race when Everton found the back of the net. Despite a foul on Ibrahima Konate in build-up, Michael Oliver and VAR awarded the goal which saw the game end 2-2.

 

Following the full-time whistle, chaos broke out as Curtis Jones reacted angrily to Abdoulaye Doucoure provoking Liverpool fans. A brawl broke out and Jones and Doucoure were shown a red card.

 

Much to the confusion of supporters, Arne Slot was then shown a red card after shaking Michael Oliver’s hand.

Sky Sports journalist Lewis Jones has explained why Arne Slot was so angry with Michael Oliver. After witnessing the chaos of the last few minutes at Goodison Park, Slot went up to Oliver and told him he disagreed with the decision not to award a foul for the push from Beto on Konate.

 

The referee then sent Slot off.

 

Jones reports: “In the drama of it all, Liverpool are fuming at the decision not to award a foul from Beto for a push on Konate.

 

“That’s why Arne Slot was raging at full-time and was shown a red card. It’s such a big moment for many, many reasons.”

 

The Metro claims a camera caught Slot saying : “You gave me a red for that?”

 

Slot now suspended but Liverpool still lead the title race

 

 

Slot and his assistant coach Sipke Hulshoff were also sent off but Liverpool, despite dropping two points at Goodison Park, gained one point in the title race as their game in hand now puts them seven points clear of Arsenal.

 

That’s the most important thing. Liverpool are still in an extremely commanding position in the title race.

 

And what’s more, Everton will have to visit Anfield in six weeks where it will be a lot harder to get away with some of the antics last night produced.

 

Liverpool have 14 games remaining in their bid to win the league while their bitter rivals will have to fight tooth and nail to ensure they don’t slip back into the relegation zone.
