Rangers attacker Hamza Igamane was wrongly shown the red card against St Mirren at Ibrox on Saturday.

Kevin Clancy gave the Moroccan his marching orders after he made a nasty challenge on Mark O’Hara.

However, he was then asked to look at his decision from different angles by the VAR and then change his red card to a yellow card.

 

The hosts are currently down at home 2-0 to St Mirren.

VAR has often been criticised for interfering when it shouldn’t but this was the right usage of the technology.

Clancy made a clear blunder and the worst part is that he did not even hesitate before making that call.

Even in real time, this looked like a foul but no more than a yellow card and the St Mirren players did not even expect more.

Once he saw a few replays of the incident, he knew that he had made his blunder and reversed his decision to only show a yellow card.

Speaking on Rangers TV, Iain Ferguson said at 3:49 pm: “It’s a rash one, deserving of the booking. That’s a yellow for me. No more. Quite right from the ref (to overturn the call). The referee was very quick to pull out the red and that’s what the crowd were giving him stick for.”

Rangers now find themselves in a world of trouble

One thing that was working for Gers this season was their form at Ibrox.

However, after this performance and result, it’s hard to make a case for Philippe Clement staying.

While there were individuals that led the side down, there was no pattern of play since the opening minute and that’s entirely on the manager.

Fans have already been through enough and they cannot see the board continuing to accept this kind of mediocrity.

There are no excuses for Clement as he had a strong side available to him and his team should’ve won this game comfortably.

 

Whether or not the board act instantly, remains to be seen as this is unacceptable and things are not going to improve.

 

If Gers are to win the Europa League, unfortunately, Clement is not the manager who will help them achieve that.
