Kris Boyd shares manager Rangers should consider as track record stands up to test
Derek McInnes almost gave himself a perfect audition for the Rangers job last night.
The former Ibrox midfielder has done a number on his old club before and it looked like being the case again last night, Killie 2-0 up and flying. They could potentially have been further ahead before Rangers pulled it together and won 4-2.
As always seems to be the case when the Gers job is vacant, the Killie boss has been mentioned as a candidate.
Ally McCoist put McInnes forward as one of his three candidates, along with former boss Steven Gerrard and Kevin Muscat.
Rangers News learned that McInnes would be interested in the Ibrox hotseat if approached, eight years after astonishingly turning down an offer to take the gig.
In the build-up to last night’s game, the 53-year-old gave his reaction to Philippe Clement’s sacking and links to the job.

Boyd expects Derek McInnes to be considered by Rangers
Killmarnock are not having their best season and sit 10th after the defeat, just four points above the relegation play-off place. But McInnes has done a fine job on the whole after bringing them back up from the Championship and finishing tenth then fourth.
Prior to that, his reputation was sky high on the strength of his work at Aberdeen, even finishing above Rangers one year. That wasn’t their only finish of second and he also won them the League Cup.

That track record is why Kris Boyd says McInnes should be thought of by the Rangers board as they search for a permanent manager in the summer.
Speaking on Sky Sports when asked if the Killie boss should be under consideration, he said: “I think he will be, given the job he’s done at Aberdeen and now Kilmarnock.
“That might be on the horizon for Derek.”
McInnes turned Rangers down in 2017
McInnes actually had the chance to jump ship to Ibrox and manage his former club when still in charge of Aberdeen in 2017.
Gers needed a successor to the disastrous Pedro Caixinha and McInnes was approached, the job his if he wanted it.
It was expected that he would be the new man but he rejected it at the 11th hour. It has since been claimed that Walter Smith advised him to reject it, with the club a basket case at the time and Dave King unable to be trusted.
