Leeds United have confirmed the signing of young goalkeeper Robbie Cook on a permanent deal from Perth Glory.

The Whites did not make a single senior transfer during the January window, but moves were made in order to bolster the quality of the U21s in the meantime.

Trials were handed out to players in key positions not only from other clubs in the PL2 setup, but also from thew other side of the globe.

It was reported back in January that Leeds had handed a trial to 18-year-old Australian goalkeeper Robbie Cook, coming over from Perth Glory to Thorp Arch.

That deal has now been confirmed by the club, seeing Cook put pen-to-paper on a two-and-a-half-year deal at Elland Road:

Turning 18 at the end of January, Cook is yet to make a senior appearance in his career, but is dubbed in the statement as a “highly rated and much-sought-after” talent.

Cook was of interest for both Manchester United and Sunderland prior to Leeds landing his signature.

Youth investment always worth celebrating at Leeds

It’s not the signing that would have been championed as a massive coup in the January window when fans were clamouring for senior deals, but it’s a good move nonetheless.

Cook clearly comes to England with serious pedigree behind him, having been touted for a Man United and Sunderland move prior to joining us.

Hopefully he’s one of the multiple bargain signings the club can bring into the senior setup in the near future.
