Leeds United full-back Isaac Schmidt is getting another opportunity to impress on the international stage next month with a call-up to the Switzerland squad.
Off the back of holidays for the Leeds squad over the past couple of weeks, the players will be returning home soon in preparation for international duty.
Now that the squad are all Premier League players, there is a chance to keep impressing on the international stage too ahead of next season’s top flight campaign, with the 2026 World Cup on the horizon.

One of the more peculiar developments of this season was the lack of playing time for versatile full-back Isaac Schmidt.
The Swiss defender joined Leeds for a reported £2.5million fee (now up to £4.6million after promotion), but made no starts in the league under Daniel Farke.
Isaac Schmidt has found playing time hard to come by at Leeds United, but has shown his quality in those appearances.
Schmidt clocked up more minutes in 24/25 with St Gallen (524) than he did for the entirety of his first season with Leeds (251), and it’s inevitably led to him pondering what the future holds earlier in 2025.
“I thought about it,” Schmidt told Blick. “But I had just arrived, I needed to adapt. And I saw that I was progressing.
“Even without playing, I felt that my progress was constant. I hoped to play if we became champions earlier. And then, I didn’t want to miss this unique moment. We don’t live that every day.”

Isaac Schmidt handed international boost with latest Switzerland call-up
Despite what Schmidt might see as a disappointing season with limited opportunities to showcase his talent, he’s been noticed by Switzerland boss Murat Yakin.
Called up for his senior debut in the March break, Schmidt confirmed on Instagram that he’s part of the June internationals as his Swiss side take on Mexico and USA in two friendlies:

How we look to set up next season might be make or break for whether Schmidt gets more opportunities in the Premier League.
If we shift to a back three, which should be considered without doubt, then there’s scope for Schmidt to be a very useful squad option for us.
He looked solid in his debut against Northern Ireland back in March, and the sub appearances that followed only solidified the idea we need to be using him more.
Hopefully these games against solid opposition help him raise his stock further.
