The 24-year-old is expected to add pace and versatility to Daniel Farke’s frontline, but his arrival doesn’t completely solve the pressing question hanging over Leeds’ attacking setup.
Okafor, who has featured for both RB Salzburg and AC Milan, is capable of playing across the front line and brings valuable Champions League experience. His ability to drift in from the left, operate as a second striker, or lead the line in certain systems gives Farke greater tactical flexibility. However, despite his qualities, Okafor is not seen as the out-and-out centre-forward that many supporters believe the club still require.
Leeds have already added Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha this summer, yet doubts remain over their reliability. Calvert-Lewin’s injury record raises concern, while Nmecha is still finding consistency at the top level. Patrick Bamford, meanwhile, has struggled with fitness for several seasons, and Georginio Rutter’s strengths lie more in creating and linking play than being a natural finisher.
The lack of a proven, clinical No. 9 capable of hitting 15 to 20 goals in the Premier League remains the big gap in the squad. While Okafor’s signing is a statement of ambition and undoubtedly strengthens Leeds’ attack, many feel that until a true goalscorer is secured, the Whites’ frontline will remain incomplete.
With the transfer window still open, the expectation is that Leeds could yet return to the market for another striker to finally address the one glaring issue that persists despite Okafor’s imminent arrival.
