Leeds United have been linked with a sensational late-window swoop for Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo, in what would be regarded as one of the most eye-catching transfers of the summer.
Mainoo, 19, has grown frustrated over a lack of game time at Old Trafford under Ruben Amorim and is believed to be open to a loan exit to secure regular minutes. With Leeds in need of midfield reinforcements following Ethan Ampadu’s injury setback, the Whites have reportedly identified the England international as a bold target.
Former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson has described the potential deal as a “statement signing” for the club, highlighting how securing one of England’s brightest young talents from their fiercest rivals would underline their ambition to make an impact in the Premier League this season.
However, any agreement would be extremely complicated. Manchester United are reluctant to let Mainoo leave, particularly to a historic rival, while several other top clubs including Chelsea, Tottenham and Napoli are also monitoring the youngster’s situation.
Despite the hurdles, Leeds are said to be preparing an ambitious late approach, hoping to convince both the player and Manchester United that Elland Road would be the perfect destination for Mainoo to continue his development.
