Leeds United transfer deadline day timeline as loan offer rejected while Championship rivals strengthen
Leeds United had a largely uneventful January transfer window and it ultimately ended the same way on deadline day.
Daniel Farke had warned before January that Leeds United were unlikely to make any moves in the window, as the manager is happy with his Championship table-topping squad.
However, with title rivals Burnley and Sheffield United strengthening considerably ahead of the run-in, there did appear to be some late movement.
Leeds had failed in attempts to add a new playmaker to their ranks, with Emi Buendia and Louie Barry heading elsewhere on loan.
As a result, attention shifted to bringing in an additional striker and Cameron Archer became their top target.
An initial loan offer was rejected by Southampton but Leeds remained confident in their pursuit of Archer going into deadline day.
However, Saints remained reluctant to let a striker leave and, ultimately, Leeds did not bring him in.
There was brief hope when Leeds fans thought Archer was heading to Yorkshire on a flight but a private jet booked from Bradford Leeds airport to Bournemouth was unrelated.

Leeds were also briefly linked with Adam Armstrong but nothing came of that, either.
Thankfully, no one headed in the opposite direction, with a bid for Mateo Joseph being turned down, but the window did not end with any excitement.
Joe Gelhardt’s loan switch to Hill City was the only notable change to the squad in the window, while Australian teenager Robbie Cook was signed for the reserves.
