HERE WE GO: Rangers majority ownership group 49ers Enterprises are reportedly on the verge of appointing Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard as Rangers’ new manager once their takeover of the Glasgow club is complete

According to the Scottish Express, the 49ers group, who hold a majority stake in the Whites, are closing in on officially taking over Rangers. It is expected that the Rangers shirts will feature the Red Bull sponsorship logo to align with the energy drink company’s backing of 49ers Enterprises. The first port of call for the consortium will be to appoint a new manager at Ibrox. Philippe Clement was sacked in February and Barry Ferguson has been in temporary charge since.Under Ferguson, Rangers made an impressive run to the quarter-finals of the Europa League where they were just bested by Athletic Bilbao. However, it is not expected that this spell will lead to him being entrusted permanently.Instead, according to the Scottish Express, the ‘most likely scenario’ will be that Gerrard takes the job permanently next season. Such a decision would see the Liverpool icon return to Ibrox for his second stint in charge.
