Lennon Miller Rangers odds shortened by US takeover as Gers look to land Celtic transfer blow

Lennon Miller is the hottest property in Scottish football at the moment but Rangers face a steep challenge to sign the Motherwell star.

The 18-year-old midfielder has been a revelation since breaking through at the Steelmen last season and is reportedly attracting interest from across Europe.

Rangers have been mentioned as Lennon Miller suitors in the past, something in keeping with Nils Koppen’s transfer pledge to shop more local at Ibrox.

But with Old Firm rivals Celtic also said to be interested in signing Miller this summer, could the proposed Rangers takeover give the Ibrox club an edge?

Four clubs tail ‘Rangers target’ Lennon Miller

Motherwell will be hoping to recoup a record fee for Miller should the midfielder leave Fir Park this summer.

The Steelmen reportedly knocked back bids from Italy and Belgium in January with Udinese and Union Saint Gilloise being told where to go in no uncertain terms.

Celtic retain a keen interest in Miller this summer with Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt also keeping tabs.

It’s claimed that it will take an offer ‘far in excess’ of the £3.25m it cost Celtic to take David Turnbull to Parkhead from Fir Park in 2020 to sign Miller.

MORE RANGERS STORIES

There is some conjecture over how much Motherwell will demand but it’s clear any transfer swoop for the teenager will not come cheap.

Could 49ers takeover bankroll Rangers transfer?

Rangers know they will be up against it to sign Lennon Miller this summer with Motherwell likely demanding more than £4m for the midfielder’s services.

This is a bargain for some, with the likes of Michael Stewart claiming Miller would be worth £15m if he played south of the border.

With the likes of Premier League Liverpool also linked to Miller this season, it’s clear there is plenty of interest in the teenager and Motherwell will hope to bank big this summer.

But with the proposed 49ers Enterprises takeover edging closer to completion, a much-needed cash injection is on the horizon at Ibrox.

The deal is expected to see the Gers boost their transfer coffers but already the likes of Ross McCormack have talked down a move for Miller.

The former Ibrox hitman reckons the Gers already have a similar player in their ranks, who might even be better, in top young talent Bailey Rice.

It’s not just in terms of playing staff that Rangers are some way back in the pecking order too.

Even despite the imminent US takeover, there’s also a growing feeling that a move for Miller is increasingly too rich for the Ibrox club’s blood.

That’s not to say that Rangers won’t be in a better position to compete for Lennon Miller’s signature with the Americans on board.

But with a new Rangers sporting director, manager and executive structure first on the agenda at Ibrox, there are more pressing priorities in Glasgow.
