New Leeds United target is ‘certainly tempted’ by Elland Road move if Daniel Farke wins promotion

The Championship run-in is now fully underway with the March international break taking shape and Leeds United remain top of the table, even if only on goal difference.

It also means that it is less than three months until the beginning of the summer transfer window and The Whites will be planning for a possible Premier League campaign as well as another Championship season.

One player linked with a move to Leeds is Kortrijk’s French ace Abdoulaye Sissako. The holding midfielder, who can play at centre-back, is likely to be seen as a replacement for veteran player Josuha Guilavogui.

With Guilavogui due to leave at the end of his contract, Leeds are likely to be in the market for a player that is able to play in midfield and in defence for cover and Sissako ticks both boxes ahead of next term.

Abdoulaye Sissako’s stance on a move to Leeds United

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Caught Offside say 26-year-old Sissako would be interested in a move to Elland Road if Daniel Farke secures promotion. Indeed, the report says Sissako would be ‘certainly tempted’.

Whether or not the Mali international would join Leeds if promotion did not occur come the end of the season remains to be seen. Certainly, there will be a higher calibre of player available if Leeds do go up.

Sissako will almost certainly be on the move this summer. His contract at Kortrijk will expire in 2026 and his side currently sit in the relegation places despite an impressive away win over Gent on Sunday.

Going into Sunday’s match, Kortrijk had only won six of their 29 league games but they managed to beat a Max Dean’s Gent away from home, a Gent side that currently sit sixth and are pushing for Europe.

Abdoulaye Sissako stats in Kortijk win over Gent:

90 minutes played, 6.8 FotMob rating

44 touches, 25 successful passes, 35 attempted, six passes into final third

Eight defensive actions, three interceptions, four recoveries

Five duels won, eight duels lost, one aerial battle won

The Malian ace played in the middle of a three-man midfield, picking up a yellow card but lasting the entire 90 minutes to help secure a win. Certainly, Leeds onlookers will have been impressed on Sunday.

With Guilavogui going, Leeds will need an option for cover but it all depends on whether Sissako is willing to provide cover and be a rotational option going into the 2025-26 season – he is likely to cost little.
