Hope explained that while the club’s transfer priorities are already clear, the ability to execute their plans will depend on European qualification.
“What I have been told is that the club more or less know what they want to do now—positions and names within those areas. That will not change depending on Champions League or Europa League, but the ability to make it all happen will do,” Hope reported.

“James Trafford and Guehi are two names I would watch very closely,” Hope noted. However, he added that a move for a right winger “could become a question of budget, depending on which European competition the club are playing in.”
The more significant issue could come in the form of a major sale. Hope warned that missing out on the Champions League “might just give Newcastle a bigger budget than they expected, given the possibility of one of their top players moving on.”
