Nils Koppen must be wise to what manager has said about Rangers target
Rangers have seemingly been given the green light to sign CSKA Moscow midfielder Sasa Zdjelar.
As per the Daily Mail (9 January), the Serbian international is a serious transfer target at Ibrox and could be available on a free transfer after FIFA gave foreign players the right to terminate their contracts due to the ongoing conflict with Ukraine.
However, former CSKA Moscow boss Aleksandr Tarkhanov urged his former employers to sell [Championat], claiming Zdjelar “is not such a star” that the Russian outfit would not be worse off without the midfielder.
Koppen cannot afford to misfire in the January transfer window, with Philippe Clement desperate to bolster his ranks at the Gers – while tempting, he should avoid Zdjelar at all costs on the basis of these comments.

The 23-year-old has been relied upon as the Light Blues navigate the busy New Year schedule with several key stars missing due to injury, but needs must, and his sale will help bolster the squad.
However, despite the Gers’ desperate situation this month, Koppen cannot allow himself to be dragged into easy solutions.

Zdjelar ticks all the boxes for a Rangers signing – he could be available for free, is a seasoned professional in a top-flight league and has Champions League and Europa League experience on his CV.
But still, Tarkhanov’s comments do not bode well for a potential transfer and for once, Rangers should take the sensible route and avoid a potentially problematic signing.
The 29-year-old operates in midfield but can fill in along the backline should Clement move to bolster his defensive options – a reported move for Burnley defender Hjalmar Ekdal [Anel Avdic] would be a more surefire option.
