Nottingham Forest are actively working to secure the future of defender Ola Aina amid interest from Saudi Arabian clubs. Aina, whose contract is set to expire in the summer of 2025, has been a pivotal player for Forest, starting all 12 Premier League matches in the 2024/25 season. Recognizing his contributions, Forest are in advanced discussions to extend Aina’s contract, aiming to deter potential suitors from the cash-rich Saudi Pro League. Notably, Michael Emenalo, former Chelsea director and current overseer of the Saudi Pro League, has expressed interest in bringing Aina to the Middle East. However, Aina has shown a strong inclination to remain at the City Ground, stating in September, “I am really happy at Forest… I feel at home and we’re just building.”
Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo has lauded Aina’s performances and expressed optimism about retaining him, emphasizing the club’s appreciation for both his on-field contributions and his character. The club is keen to finalize the extension promptly to fend off external interest and ensure Aina remains integral to their defensive lineup.
In parallel, Nottingham Forest have been linked with other transfer activities involving Saudi clubs. Reports from March 2023 indicated that midfielder Jesse Lingard attracted attention from Saudi Arabian and Major League Soccer teams. Lingard, who joined Forest on a one-year deal, was reportedly not offered a contract extension, making him a free agent and a potential target for clubs willing to meet his wage demands.
Additionally, Forest have been associated with potential signings from Saudi Arabia. The club reportedly showed interest in right-back Saud Abdulhamid from Al-Hilal, a player who impressed during the 2022 World Cup and has aspirations to play in Europe.
