Philippe Clement ‘shambles’ as Clinton Nsiala ‘exposes’ Rangers manager again

Clinton Nsiala is the latest Rangers player to expose Philippe Clement and his credibility as a manager at Ibrox.

Rangers reacted to losing against Queen’s Park in the Scottish Cup by earning a 3-1 victory over Hearts at Tynecastle on Sunday (February), courtesy of two own goals from Jamie McCart and a goal from Vaclav Cerny.

Several pundits, including Chris Sutton, doubt if the Light Blues deserved to win, but Clement and Co walked away with all three points to their credit.

 

They have Jack Butland to thank for the result as he produced a man-of-the-match performance, although Nsiala was a close second.

Clinton Nsiala shines v Hearts

Starting alongside John Souttar, Nsiala was a formidable presence in the heart of Rangers’ defence, making 16 clearances and two recoveries, while winning the only tackle he attempted [FotMob]. Eight of those clearances were with his head.

 

 

No player had more defensive actions than the former AC Milan ace in the game (18), with the second-most involved player, Souttar, having six fewer actions.

 

The 21-year-old won four of his seven ground duels (57 per cent), as well as three of his five such attempts in the air (60 per cent).

 

Nsiala had 60 touches of the ball and completed 29 of his 35 passes (83 per cent), which included four accurate long balls.

He also completed two of his three dribbles (67 per cent).

Philippe Clement exposed at Rangers

Nsiala’s recent performances make one wonder why he did not feature for Clement’s side until the turn of the year despite arriving from AC Milan in the summer.

 

The former Nantes talent failed to even appear on the bench until the 3-3 Scottish Premiership draw against Hibernian on 5 January.

 

This is despite Souttar and Robin Propper often struggling for form in the first half of the season, with the Belgian tactician forced to play James Tavernier and Neraysho Kasanwirjo at centre-back on occasion.

 

For Clement to persist with Souttar and Propper while not even considering Nsiala exposes everything wrong with him as a manager.

 

The 50-year-old is a serial offender as this is not the first time has done this.

 

In the first half of the season, Clement continued to put Tavernier in the firing line despite the captain putting several poor performances in a row and having Kasanwirjo and Dujon Sterling available.

 

Similarly, he stuck with Cyriel Dessers for longer than necessary, forcing Hamza Igamane to wait for an opportunity.

 

Although he deserves credit for eventually bringing the likes of Igamane to the fore, he is, more often than not, too late to do it.

 

This could ultimately be the reason why Clement is sacked as the Rangers manager.
