SKY SPORTS OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: Rangers closer to appointing Kevin Muscat as their next permanent manager.

Kevin Muscat appears to be the frontrunner to take over at Ibrox now, after Russell Martin was finally sacked by Rangers on 5 October. After Steven Gerrard rejected a return to Glasgow, Danny Rohl looked set for a free run at the job. Things have now changed, though, and former Ibrox star Muscat is in pole position, despite the season in China not ending until late November.

Steven Smith is currently in interim charge of training at Auchenhowie, with plans now seemingly coming together ahead of the return to action.Muscat is currently in charge of Shanghai Port, who are top of the league in China with four games to go.

Should the Australian need all of those games to win the title again, he wouldn’t be available until 22 November to make the switch to Glasgow.

That is where Neil McCann could come in.  The former Rangers coach appears to be earmarked as Muscat’s assistant already, should he be successful, and he could take charge while he finishes in China
