Rangers come back from the dead as SWPL title race livens up on a day of drama at the top
Jo Potter’s side came back to rescue a point against Hearts while Hibs beat Celtic and Glasgow City stayed top
Glasgow City and Hibs head into the split joint top as Celtic and Rangers dropped vital points.
Celtic were beaten 1-0 at Hibs after an Eilidh Adams strike and now find themselves three points adrift. Gers are two off the top despite coming back from 2-0 down to Hearts and draw with the Edinburgh side. And City’s comfortable 4-0 win over Motherwell keeps them ahead on goal difference as they chase their 17th title.
It was a day of drama in the SWPL, that was headlined with the table-topping clash between Hibs and Celtic. Adams, 20, capped off a dream week after making her Scotland debut in Austria last week with the game’s only goal. At Broadwood, Gers found themselves 2-0 down at the break to Eva Olid’s Hearts after a Bayley Hutchison brace. But 17-year-old Laura Berry stepped off the bench to pull it back to 2-1 before setting up Rio Hardy for a late leveller.
Rangers boss Jo Potter said: “We looked dead and buried at 45 minutes. We were way off it and nowhere near to getting into the game.
“We did really well to turn that around and try and push and change the outcome of the game so I am hoping that point will be a big one at the end of the season. Berry is great. She has energy and I knew exactly what we were lacking on the pitch.

“She came on and made a great impact and you could see the lift that she gave the team. To be fair to the players, they turned it around in the second half and I kind of feel a little bit disappointed that we maybe couldn’t take all three points. But if you had asked me at half-time, I would have snapped your hand off for a point.”

Leanne Ross was delighted as City put themselves into pole position. They have a +23 goal difference over Hibs but with Gers just two behind with a superior goal advantage and Celtic still in it, Ross believes the title race will go to the wire.

That’s why her sole focus is on ensuring City get their job done without looking to results elsewhere. Brenna Lovera broke the deadlock two minutes before the break with a Natalia Wrobel double and Lisa Forrest effort sealing a 4-0 success. Boss Ross said: “Unless we win our games and then it doesn’t matter what happens elsewhere. We are 100% focussed on that.”
Ross also predicted Paul Brownlie’s Well could still have a part to play in where the title goes as they secured their top six spot. Ross added: “They are going to have a say in the destination of the title because they are a difficult team to play against. We now need to play them twice again after the split and we will need to be ready for that.”
Elsewhere, Dundee United lost 3-1 to Montrose as they remain firmly rooted to the bottom of the table – 10 adrift of the 10th placed Angus side. Aberdeen’s survival hopes were boosted as they beat Spartans 1-0 with Emily Kraft netting. Queen’s Park and Partick Thistle cancelled each other out as they drew 0-0.
