Former Chelsea striker Joe Cole has thrown the name of his old teammate into the ring for the Ibrox job.
Barry Ferguson was appointed as Rangers’ interim head coach on Monday following Philippe Clement’s dismissal.
The 47-year-old will be in charge until the end of the campaign, although with the looming takeover from 49ers Enterprises on the horizon, it remains to be seen who will be Clement’s long-term successor.Cole, who played for the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Roma, has been suggested as a curveball option. His namesake, Joe, recently spoke out on The Dressing Room Podcast.
He said: “Where do they go, Rangers? I’m going to throw a name in there. He’s our guy, Ashley Cole.
“I’m going to throw him in. I know he’s got a great job working with the England Under-21s.
“Rangers had such a great spell with Stevie G, another ex-England legend, and I can see Coley going into that job.”
The 44-year-old doesn’t have any managerial experience. He is currently Lee Carsely’s assistant with England’s under-21s, having also coached with the senior team, albeit on an interim basis.
