Kris Boyd has accused Rangers of lacking strong characters throughout the club as pressure continues to mount on Russell Martin — and the former Ibrox striker has already identified three possible successors if the manager is shown the door.
Martin’s rocky start to life in Glasgow has intensified calls for change, with recent results and performances leaving fans frustrated. Boyd believes the problems go beyond the dugout, pointing to a squad and hierarchy that he feels are missing the kind of leaders who can steady the ship during a crisis.
The Sky Sports pundit admitted Martin is facing “a near-impossible task” but insisted the club cannot afford to dither if results fail to turn around. And in his view, there are already three realistic names who could step in and bring authority back to the Ibrox hotseat.
While Boyd stopped short of claiming a change is inevitable, he stressed that Rangers need to rediscover their identity and “appoint someone with backbone and presence” if they move on from Martin. His trio of suggested candidates, described as managers who understand the demands of Rangers, would be tasked with lifting a dressing room and fanbase badly in need of inspiration.
Boyd’s warning comes as fresh boardroom pressure grows, with supporters making their feelings clear following recent defeats. With patience running thin, the next few fixtures could prove decisive not only for Martin’s future, but also for the direction the club takes in the months ahead.
