Breaking news :Rangers midfielder Kieran Dowell spent the second half of last season on loan at Birmingham City, a move designed to help the former Everton prospect rediscover form and fitness after a difficult spell at Ibrox.

The 26-year-old joined the Light Blues in 2023 but struggled to establish himself as a regular starter. With competition fierce in midfield, Dowell was allowed to leave on loan in January, making the switch to St Andrew’s to gain valuable game time in the Championship.

During his stint at Birmingham, he featured regularly and impressed with his work rate and technical ability, earning praise from both teammates and coaching staff. The spell not only allowed him to rebuild confidence but also gave Rangers a closer look at how he could fit into their long-term plans.

As he returns to Ibrox this season, Dowell faces a fresh challenge under Russell Martin, who is under mounting pressure but has vowed to give every player a fair chance to stake their claim. With Rangers juggling domestic and European commitments, the midfielder could yet have a significant role to play if he can translate his Birmingham form onto the Scottish stage.

Dowell’s future at the club may hinge on his ability to stay injury-free and adapt to Martin’s demanding style of play, but his loan spell in England has at least kept him sharp and ready for the battles ahead.
