BBC NEWS:A BBC pundit has identified exactly what Russell Martin is attempting to implement at Rangers — but insists the players currently at his disposal simply aren’t capable of executing his tactical ideas.

Speaking after another unconvincing performance from the Ibrox side, the pundit noted that Martin is clearly trying to get Rangers to build from the back and dominate possession in a style similar to his previous sides at Swansea and Southampton. However, he suggested that several members of the current squad lack the technical ability and confidence to play that way effectively under pressure.

He said:

“You can see what Martin wants — it’s all about control, patience and playing through the thirds. But the problem is, this group just can’t do it. They look uncomfortable every time they try to play out, and opponents are taking advantage of it.”

The comments reflect growing concern among supporters that Martin’s footballing philosophy doesn’t suit the current Rangers squad, with the team’s poor start to the season adding further pressure on the under-fire boss.

Rangers travel to Falkirk next, where Martin will be desperate for a result to ease tensions and buy himself more time to turn things around at Ibrox.
