Police Scotland have released an image of a man they wish to speak to as part of an ongoing investigation into an assault that took place during a Rangers football match in Glasgow.
The incident occurred on Saturday, 9 March 2024, at Ibrox Stadium during a high-profile Scottish Premiership match. Authorities have not disclosed the details of the assault, but confirmed that it took place in the stands among spectators. The victim sustained injuries, though their condition has not been made public.
Investigators are seeking assistance from the public to identify the man in the released image. He is described as being in his late 20s to early 30s, with a medium build and short dark hair. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a dark jacket and jeans. The image, captured from CCTV footage within the stadium, shows the man among a crowd of fans.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “We are appealing to anyone who may recognise the man in this image or who witnessed the incident to come forward. We believe he may have information that could assist with our inquiries.”
They added that all information would be treated confidentially and encouraged people to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting reference number 1245 of 9 March. Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Police are continuing their investigation and working closely with Rangers Football Club to review footage and ensure safety protocols remain in place for future matches. They have also increased their presence at home games in the wake of this incident.
