Rangers boss Russell Martin could once again look to the English leagues to pad out his Light Blues ranks after repeated links in recent weeks – with the club reportedly in ‘advanced talks’ to sign Leicester City defender Conor Coady as an experienced head to marshall their relatively leaky backline ahead of pre-season.
Rangers, who are also set to tie up a deal for Bournemouth full-back Max Aarons as Martin looks to bolster his ranks sharply before their European campaign, could look further to the English leagues for familiarity in his ranks as he aims to topple Celtic’s dominance of the Scottish Premiership in his debut season as manager.

The report by the Daily Record states that Rangers have ramped up the ante in their bid to land Coady this summer, with Martin aiming to bolster his defence ahead of a potential title push after four years without the title.

The Ibrox outfit are said to be ‘locked in advanced talks’ to sign the former England international, who has 198 Premier League games to his name and a further 179 in the Championship, as well as 18 in the Europa League.
Coady, 32, is out of contract at Leicester next summer after joining two years ago, despite making 22 appearances in the top-flight this season, but the lure of European football as opposed to a season in the second-tier could be a huge pull for the Liverpudlian, with Rangers pushing to get a deal done quickly after their return to the training ground for pre-season despite Coady’s £75,000-per-week wages.
Martin wants new signings bedded in prior to their Champions League qualifier against Panathinaikos next month, and with the security of a longer-term deal, it’s an appealing move for all parties.
Coady came through the ranks at Liverpool, moving to Huddersfield Town for a year before making the switch to Wolverhampton Wanderers, where he spent the bulk of his career.
