Rangers next manager warned after ‘catastrophic’ developments at Ibrox
Rangers could potentially scare off their next manager after what may have happened with Barry Ferguson at Ibrox.
The Gers icon replaced Philippe Clement as the interim manager midway through the season, but despite his seeming willingness to stay, he took charge of his final game against Hibernian at Easter Road on 17 May.
Kevin Thelwell and Gretar Steinsson are now looking for the Light Blues’ next permanent head coach, with Steven Gerrard heavily linked with a return.
Whoever the next head coach at Ibrox will be has been sent a warning after the recent developments at the Glaswegian outfit.

Jackson feels that the recruitment team having control of who’s bought and sold at the Glaswegian outfit is a “terrible” starting point for the new head coach, considering their “catastrophically poor” track record.
Speaking on Hotline Live (20 May), the journalist said: “I wonder whether that might be one of the reasons they were so quick to say thanks but no thanks, because recruitment had their own very clear and specific plan for this summer.
“And if that’s the case, and it’s recruitment that are in total control of who comes and who goes, given their track record, you just have to look at it and wish whoever it is that’s going to be named the new manager, all the very best of luck, because that is a terrible starting point if you’re relying on the same people that have been in charge of recruitment over the last however long it’s been. Because it’s been catastrophically poor.”
Thelwell to oversee major squad overhaul at Ibrox
Everton’s outgoing chief Thelwell will soon be the Gers’ next sporting director, and it’ll be interesting to see how he handles his work next summer.
The Englishman’s work at the Merseyside outfit has been decent during their unstable period, leading to some encouragement among the Light Blues’ fanbase.

If Rangers are willing to let go of players like Cerny, they must certainly have a plan to replace the Czechia international’s impact at Ibrox.
The next permanent head coach will undoubtedly have to have a strong relationship with Thelwell to build a competitive squad capable of challenging for silverware.
After a somewhat disastrous 2024/25 campaign, the supporters arguably want to see a major squad overhaul at the Gers, with quality players being signed next summer.
It’s difficult seeing players like Leon Balogun and Cerrny depart after playing a significant role in the current campaign, and the recruitment team must ensure adequate replacements are found.
