Rangers round-up: Ibrox points deduction on the cards amid Dessers exit update

Rangers fans have endured a dreadful season in the main across 2024-25, but right now are on cloud nine after the week they’ve had.

Vaclav Cerny risks a potentially whopping eight-match suspension as the SPFL and Scottish FA investigate the altercation between he and a group of Celtic fans on Sunday.

Dessers baffles Ferguson amid Rangers exit interest

Cyriel Dessers has puzzled Derek Ferguson as transfer talk continues to surround the experienced striker.

 

Ferguson, speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, claims he “doesn’t get” Dessers, who has turned in a mixed bag of performances while also maintaining a strong goal ratio since arriving in Glasgow.

 

Dessers was wanted by Serie A clubs in January in what could have been a tempting move, with the frontman at the time struggling for consistent minutes under the now-departed Philippe Clement.

 

Ferguson said: “In the game against Fenerbahce, he was everything you want from a centre-forward. He was physical, running the channels, holding the ball up, a threat in front of goal.

 

“I just can’t believe how he performs at such a high level, and then another day he looks out of sorts. If I’d never seen Dessers until last week, I’d have been thinking, what a top, top player.

 

“I don’t get him, I’ll be honest. But what comes across from his interviews is that he’s a lovely guy and he says he wants to stay at Rangers. I’m not so sure they’ll be able to keep hold of him at this rate.”

Hackett moots points deduction after Diomande celebration

Rangers could face a points deduction in the Scottish Premiership after Mohamed Diomande’s celebration against Celtic, according to Keith Hackett.

 

The former FIFA official fears Gers could have the book thrown at them with a deduction the worst-case scenario to set an example against controversial antics after goals.

 

Diomande put Rangers two goals ahead at Celtic before half-time on Sunday, preceding a celebration appearing to mimic a gun towards the home crowd.

 

Former Light Blues stars Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent had previously been issued fines for similar celebrations in the Old Firm back in 2020.

 

“This will be looked upon very seriously and the fines will no doubt increase. The Scottish FA will no doubt be discussing the size of the fine in order to stop this inappropriate celebration,” Hackett exclusively told Ibrox News.

 

“I suggest the Scottish FA pay the club a visit and address the management and the players. There is the potential of points deductions, which may now be in their thoughts.”
