Rangers’ recent run of good form came to a screeching stop with a shock defeat that left the Ibrox crowd expressing their dismay in no uncertain terms. Boos rang out as the final whistle blew, right after James Tavernier’s 97th-minute penalty miss confirmed a historic exit from the Scottish Cup – the first time Rangers have been knocked out at home by a lower-league side.
Clement didn’t mince his words post-match, clearly livid with the result: “I’m angry and frustrated about this result and going out of the cup because it was one of our big goals and our shortest chance to go to win a trophy this season” – before condemning the performance as “unacceptable.”He chastised the players for squandering the goodwill they had worked hard to build with supporter. “They built back credit with the fans in the last weeks and months. Today, they lost everything,” he insisted. “They [the fans] are right to be angry. I’m angry. It’s unacceptable and the players know that. There were too many emotions in the second half. It was too rushed from the team to score and there was less composure than the past few months.”
