HERE WE GO: Steven Gerrard tells Rangers where his ‘big summer’ focus really is amid shifting £120m picture for takeover kings

The oddsmakers make the Liverpool icon the frontrunner for a sensational return to Ibrox under the incoming US consortium.  Next boss favourite Steven Gerrard has looked towards next season with hype moving into overdrive about a return to Rangers.

However, he has put his focus on Liverpool and Arne Slot’s title defence.  The former Ibrox boss is the frontrunner with bookies and Record Sport understands he is one of the contenders under firm consideration by Kevin Thelwell and the new decision-makers at Ibrox.

Davide Ancelotti and Russell Martin are also among the last men standing for the hot seat with a new era set to be ushered in by Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises.  Amid rising speculation on social media, the Liverpool legend marked the 20th anniversary of their 2005 Champions League victory for the Anfield giants by appearing with Rafa Benitez and Sami Hyypia on The Reds Roundtable.  But thoughts quickly moved towards next season for the Premier League champions – rather than Gerrard taking a glance towards the blue half of Glasgow.

He said: “How are they going to make the squad capable of dominating? Because it’s not easy.

“Everyone else is going to strengthen. Look at PSG, the level they have gone to so quickly.  “[It’s a] big summer to make sure we are ready to compete for everything again next year. That’s Liverpool Football Club; it’s all about what’s in the pipeline.” The Elland Road owners will issue around £120million worth of new shares in the club ahead of their return to the Premier League – with investors told the nine-figure influx will be put towards stadium redevelopment and the summer transfer business.

The move sees Red Bull’s stake in Leeds reduced to below 10 per cent, according to City AM.

“[It’s a] big summer to make sure we are ready to compete for everything again next year. That’s Liverpool Football Club; it’s all about what’s in the pipeline.”

The changes at Ibrox come amid a shifting picture for 49ers Enterprises at Leeds United.

The Elland Road owners will issue around £120million worth of new shares in the club ahead of their return to the Premier League – with investors told the nine-figure influx will be put towards stadium redevelopment and the summer transfer business.

The move sees Red Bull’s stake in Leeds reduced to below 10 per cent, according to City AM.

It is claimed that the German energy drinks company declined the opportunity to invest in the issue of £120m of new shares ahead of the club’s return to the Premier League.
