TRANSFER NEWS: Antonio Cordero has agreed to sign for Newcastle United over Barcelona, Real Madrid – report

FC Barcelona has reportedly missed out on signing rising Spanish talent Antonio Cordero, who has chosen to join Newcastle United instead. The 18-year-old Málaga CF forward, who impressed this season with six goals and six assists in Spain’s Segunda Division, had previously drawn interest from the Catalan club after his breakthrough in 2023.

Barcelona was said to have submitted an offer last summer, but Cordero turned it down, unwilling to settle for a spot with the B team. Despite continued interest from Catalonia, he has now opted for a move to the Premier League, reportedly signing with Newcastle until 2030. Real Madrid were also said to be in for him. There are rumors that he could be officially welcomed next month, and also possibly be loaned to Ajax.

Cordero, sometimes known as Antoñito, is a Spanish youth international. He was born in Jerez, and was with local clubs before going to Cádiz CF, a big team in the province he is from. He bounced around from Sevilla, to Real Betis, to Málaga, to San Félix, before making his mark with Málaga’s B team. He has since risen in the ranks and is known as one of Spain’s most promising prospects in his position
